Episode 154 - September 9, 2013
Nick Webb: The first Monday Night Havok of the post-Draft BWF world is officially live! Welcome to Johannesburg, South Africa, ladies and gentlemen! I'm Nick Webb, this is Rayne, and we have one hell of a show for you tonight!
Rayne: You're damn right we do! The BWF Tag Team Titles are on the line, as Salem Croft and Derrick Daze face off against Emperor Ian and Kelly Keagan in their first defense as a team! Vespertine faces off against AJ Adams to decide who will face Outlaw for the Havok World Championship at Retribution, and that's just the tip of the iceberg!
International Flavor
The camera shifts backstage, to the office of Havok General Manager David Blazenwing. He is seated and his associate, BWF Hall of Famer X, is standing behind him, in a suit, sans facepaint. Lying on the desk in front of him is a metal briefcase.
David Blazenwing: Welcome to the premiere program in the BWF, Monday Night Havok. Unlike my contemporaries on that other show, I don't intend on droning on and on with announcements to kick off tonight's program. Allow me to re-introduce you to Havok's new secondary title, the International Championship.
Blazenwing reaches forward and opens the briefcase, displaying the gleaming International Championship for the camera.
David Blazenwing: The International Championship has roots going all the way back to BWF's first Retribution pay-per-view event in 2003 when it was originally called the Intercontinental Title, so it seems fitting that this storied Championship make its return at the same event it debuted at ten years later. Unlike on Crisis, I will not simply be handing this title over to the first person to walk into this office and make a claim for it; no, the Championship will be decided in a five-man King of the Mountain Match.
Blazenwing smirks as he looks down at the title.
David Blazenwing: X, do me a favor. Tell the idiots what a King of the Mountain Match is.
X steps forward.
X: I don't wanna.
David Blazenwing: I'll give you an extra ten grand.
X: The King of the Mountain Match rules are as follows; consider it a reverse Ladder Match that includes pinfalls and submissions. To win the match, an individual must first pin an opponent or make them tap out. That person gets placed into a penalty box at ringside for five minutes. During those five minutes, whoever 'eliminated' them can retrieve the International Championship at ringside and attempt to hang it by climbing the ladder and placing it on the rope dangling above the ring. If they fail to hang it before the time expires, they must eliminate someone else to be able to hang the title again. Whoever is the first person to hang the title in their earned five minute period will become the new International Champion.
David Blazenwing: It may sound complicated, but it's not. Earn a pinfall or submission, you have five minutes to hang the belt and win the match. Get pinned or tap out, you're in the penalty box for five minutes, which could very well cost you the match. Some of BWF's best matches have been contested under King of the Mountain Rules, and I expect this match to be no exception. As far as who will be competing for the title, I will reveal one name right now - newly-signed Havok superstar Ursula Areano. The other four will be revealed at the conclusion of tonight's show courtesy of TheBWF.com. Good luck to everyone competing in that match in two weeks, and to the rest of you, please enjoy BWF's A-show, Monday Night Havok.
The Havok theme song plays as the camera fades back to the ring.
The bell rings as Airica and Austin lock up in the center of the ring. The crowd isn't sure how to receive either competitor after Airica's failed BWF run earlier this year and Austin making his official debut in this match. That changes when Austin takes control early and refuses to give it up, gaining a moderate amount of support from the crowd. As the match wears on, the rookie maintains control of the experienced Linn, silencing any doubts regarding his ability in the ring.
Nick Webb: Look at this kid go! I'm sold!
Airica counters an attempted Lock 'em Up (Rings of Saturn) and goes for her Lights Out (Roundhouse Kick - not to be confused with AJ Adams' move of the same name) but Austin ducks under it and hoists Airica over his head with an exploder suplex, dropping her to the mat hard. He calls for the end and picks her up before dropping her with his Law and Order (Pumphandle Slam).
Rayne: I don't see Airica getting up from that!
For once in his career, Rayne is correct; a short three count later, Austin Scott has defeated Airica Linn and emerged victorious in his BWF debut!
WINNER Austin Scott, via Pinfall
Austin's entrance theme plays as the rookie, now 1-0, stands up and grins. He poses for the crowd as they are now solidly on his side.
Nick Webb: And Austin Scott is victorious in his BWF debut! I don't imagine that's how Airica envisioned her return to BWF going, but still, a hell of an effort from both competitors!
Rayne: With that win, I'd wager Austin Scott just put himself on the short list of potential entrants in the King of the Mountain Match!
The bell rings and Corvin and Toco hook up. Toco being the heavier of the two pushes Ashe back into the ropes. Ashe pushes his hands up and the referee tells Toco to back off. Toco does so and looks around at the audience smiling which gives Ashe the opportunity to charge from the corner and perform a clothesline from hell. Toco goes down hard. But he gets right back up and Ashe keeps running the ropes and on the rebound executes a flying shoulder block. Ashe is quick to get up and Toco follows him.
Nick Webb: Ashe Corvin is impressing here, but Toco's not going to go down without a hell of a fight!
Ashe goes over to Toco and Irish whips him into the ropes and then waits for Toco to come back. When Toco does return, he performs a huge running shoulder block on Ashe and Ashe goes down hard. Toco then gets on top of Ashe and starts giving him lefts and rights. Ashe covers and the referee tells Toco to get off of him but Toco isn’t listening so the referee starts the 5 count. At 3, Toco finally quits and gets off Ashe. Toco moves back and looks out at the audience and raises his hands in a sort of victory salute.
Rayne: Toco hamming it up for this South Africa crowd! They love it!
Ashe gets up quickly and gets right back Toco and when Toco turns around, Ashe throws a mean right hook to his temple. Toco staggers back and then comes back with a mean right hook himself. The two men go back and forth for a while trading blows until Toco gets up on the ropes. Ashe sees this and charges and clotheslines Toco over the ropes. Toco lands in a head on the outside of the ring. Ashe rolls out of the ring after him and clubs him over the back. He does this several times before picking Toco up and rolling him into the ring.
Nick Webb: Corvin not letting up on the Hall of Famer. After what he did on Crisis last Monday, Ashe is eager to show that he means business, for his sake and for the sake of his tandem with Jonathan Cage!
Ashe rolls in after Toco and goes for the cover. At two and a half, Toco kicks out. Ashe gets up, pulls Toco up and Irish whips him into the corner post. Ashe takes a few steps back and then charges Toco. Toco puts his foot up and kicks Ashe in the face, Ashe staggers back holding his face. Toco charges from the corner and attempts a clothesline from hell but Ashe reverses it by powerslamming Toco to the mat. He then puts Toco into the Koji clutch and locks it in. Toco growls in pain and tries to inch his way over to the ropes and finally holds onto the bottom rope. The referee tells Ashe to let him go. Ashe does so.
Rayne: Toco showing why it pays to be both a veteran and have a lot of body mass there.
Ashe gets up and Toco slowly gets up and before Ashe can interfere, Toco makes the tag to Kandi. She slowly, reluctantly goes through the ropes to the ring. Ashe has a smile on his face and tells her to bring it. Kandi charges and performs a clothesline. No effect. Ashe looks down at himself and brushes off his chest. Kandi tries again with another clothesline. Again with no effect. Kandi runs the ropes again and this time attempts a flying clothesline. Ashe catches her and then powerslams her to the mat. She kicks out weakly at two and a half. He then puts her in the Koji Clutch as well and cinches in the lock. A few seconds later, Kandi taps out.
WINNERS: Ashe Corvin & Apollo Nighthawk, via Submission
"Feuer Frei" by Rammstein hits and Ashe stands up, smirking. He walks over to Apollo Nighthawk, who he never bothered to tag in, and shouts "That's how it's done! Who needs ya?" before exiting the ring. He walks backwards up the ramp, motioning for gold around his waist, even as Toco checks on Kandi Kash, unsure of how or why the match ended so quickly after he tagged her in.
Nick Webb: I'm not sure if there was some kind of problem there with Sister Sin...
Rayne: Just say it, Webb; she crumpled up like a wet paper towel the moment she stepped into the ring with Corvin!
Nick Webb: Well... yes. Though I might have put it a little gentler than that.
We Should Totally Have a Twitter Championship
The camera cuts back to Havok General Manager David Blazenwing inside his office. The door to his office opens without a knock and in walks Vespertine, dressed in a pink baby doll skirt, a purple spaghetti strap tank top, and red heels.
Vespertine: Really, David? Really?
Blazenwing raises his eyebrow.
David Blazenwing: It's Mr. Blazenwing to you. Thank you for knocking, by the way. Now, tell me what you want and get out.
Ves seems to ignore Blazenwing's slightly irritated tone.
Vespertine: Where-oh-where do I even start with this list of things that are wrong with AJ Adams? Okay, let's start with his Twittering.
David Blazenwing: Twitter? Oh lord, this should be good. Alright, please, enlighten me. Why does AJ's Twitter usage bother you?
Vespertine: It's a disgrace! He can’t get his fat ass off the computer for one second to train for this match we have. Does he even know WHO he is facing tonight? If he wants a win, he needs to step up his game. Do you even think for a second that his Twitters are important to me? David, I want an opponent worthy of my skills. AJ Adams is sooooo not worthy. Come on, David. You can do better than AJ Adams. Please. For me.
She goes into little girl mode and looks at him innocently whilst sucking on her lip.
David Blazenwing: That's, um... creepy. Stop doing that. (Clears throat) And are you for real? You're facing AJ Adams tonight because he's a former three-time World Champion. Two of those titles, he won right here in BWF. I may not like the guy personally, but I can still recognize his talent. Same with you. Hence why you both have this opportunity tonight.
Vespertine: I don't care if he USED to be a World Champion. What he is CURRENTLY Champion of is Twitter. BFD. Big frigging deal.
X puts his hand up to interrupt Vespertine.
X: Hang on, did you really just spell out BFD, and then proceed to explain what it means anyway?
X starts laughing uncontrollably as Vespertine continues, unabated.
Vespertine: AJ is so below my ring excellence and par. Dave, you have seen me wrestle. You saw my win over Jarvis. I was one of the first ladies you drafted to Havok. Doesn’t that count for something?
David shrugs.
David Blazenwing: Should it? Do I look like I give a fuck if you have tits or not? If you're talking Draft order, Adams got drafted quite a ways before you did.
Vespertine: Whatever. Now, instead of getting his old twisted ass off the chair and training to give me a good match, he is on the computer Twittering about me. I’m sure he was good at one time, but now he is trying really hard to play junior high school bully by calling me names and inflating his own deflated ego? He is failing miserably, I might add, because he doesn’t actually talk about my ring skills. He talks about my skin complexion and my “kitty cat.”
Blazenwing busts out laughing.
David Blazenwing: Kitty cat? Are you twelve? Alright, I'm officially done. Get the hell out of my office.
Vespertine: But -
David Blazenwing: NOW.
Vespertine raises a finger to argue, but instead, makes a pouty face and stomps out of Blazenwing's office, slamming the door behind her. David shakes his head and glances over at X.
David Blazenwing: I really need to look into putting in a bar. Christ, I need a damn drink.
X: You don't drink.
David Blazenwing: Exactly.
David shakes his head and X laughs as the camera shifts back to ringside.
The first BWF Tag Team Title defense of Emperor Ian and Kelly Keagan begins as the bell rings and both Ian and Daze kick things off. Almost immediately after the match starts, Funk Dogg, who is at ringside, jumps onto the ring apron, trying to distract the referee. As Croft yells at the ref to focus, Ian takes the opportunity to level Daze square in the testicles with a nasty kick.
Nick Webb: OH! Right in the Mommy-Daddy button!
Croft immediately leaps into the ring and charges at Ian, but Kelly is there and jumps up, hitting a standing dropkick that sends Salem down to the outside! Funk Dogg jumps off the apron and the ref turns his attention back to the ring as Ian reaches down and cinches in The Imperial Conquest (Reverse Crucifix Arm-bar with Neck Submission) on the wounded Daze in the center of the ring. Already in an immense amount of pain from the low blow, Daze doesn't have much fight left in him and after struggling in the center of the ring for a few moments, he finally taps out.
WINNERS AND STILL BWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: Emperor Ian & Kelly Keagan, via Submission
"Imperial March" by John Williams starts playing as Ian stands up and motions for his Tag Team Title. He grabs it and walks off without a though, declaring that he "has other business". Kelly holds up her own Tag Title and Funk Dogg holds her free hand up, to which she smiles. She continues to celebrate in the ring as Ian walks back through the curtain.
Nick Webb: Ian is certainly effective at his job, illegal though his means may be.
Rayne: It ain't illegal if the ref don't see it! HA! Brilliant! I love Emperor Ian!
Coming Soon on Pay-Per-View
Havok World Champion Outlaw makes his way to the ring, dressed in referee attire, before Vespertine and AJ Adams make their way down to begin the main event. The bell rings and the two just look each other up and down. Vespertine makes an inaudible comment towards AJ, who smirks and shakes his head. He mimics pulling a cell phone out of his pocket and typing on it, before holding it in Vespertine's face and turning it into a middle finger. The crowd "oohs" audibly and Vespertine scowls before rearing back and slapping him right across the face hard!
Nick Webb: Damn! There's not much respect here, Rayne!
Rayne: Not one bit. They each think the other one's a joke. Tonight's one of 'em is gonna be proven right!
AJ's head turns only slightly and when his head comes back, he has that same smirk - but now, he has a wild fire in his eyes. He immediately executes a step up enziguri, which connects with the back of her head. Vespertine doesn’t go down, but she staggers forward, holding her head. AJ runs forward, clamps onto each side of her head and executes a jawbreaker. She comes back up and falls backwards.
Nick Webb: I'd wager that right about this time, Vespertine is realizing just how serious AJ Adams is taking this match!
AJ gets up and goes over to Vespertine and picks her up, then tries to Irish whip her towards the ropes but she reverses the Irish whip and when AJ rebounds, she executes a backdrop and Adams goes down on his back hard. He writhes in pain on the mat as Vespertine goes over to him, lifts him up and hits him with a reverse DDT. After, she looks around and goes for the corner post.
Rayne: I counter what you said earlier and say that right about THIS time, I'd bet AJ Adams is realizing just how serious Vespertine is taking this match!
She climbs up on the corner post, looks around, does the Lita pose and then jumps to execute a leg drop. She goes down and down and down and lands… on the mat! AJ moved at the last second and Vespertine grabs her rear in pain. She struggles to get up but finally does so and Adams is waiting for her. Vespertine sees this and charges, and AJ attempts a clothesline, but she ducks under it, runs the ropes, rebounds and on the return trip, executes a spinning heel kick and Adams goes down hard!
Nick Webb: Spinning heel kick from Vespertine! The former BWF World Champion just got rocked!
With Adams down, Vespertine runs to the corner post and climbs up. She looks out at the audience, then jumps up and out and the audience stands to watch as she performs a 670 Senton right on his stomach! She bounces off and he holds his stomach in pain.
Rayne: Okay, even I have to say, WHAT A MANEUVER!
Vespertine crawls over to hook his leg and Outlaw drops to start the three count.
1!
2!
Kickout!
At two, Adams kicks out. Vespertine gets up slowly, as does AJ. Vespertine goes for a tie up, but Adams, perhaps out of instinct, grabs Vespertine by the hair and snapmares her over and keeps her in a chinlock and puts a knee in her back. Outlaw warns Adams about grabbing Vespertine's hair, but Adams just smiles at him, mouthing the words "you're next"! Vespertine screams in pain, and Outlaw asks if she wants to give up, but she shakes her head no. Outlaw waits until Vespertine starts to fade and then raises her hand. It drops once, but it doesn’t drop a second time. Out of desperation, Vespertine reaches up and rakes Adams' eyes. He lets go immediately and swears loudly. Vespertine gets up and Outlaw admonishes her this time. She puts a hand up to silence him (which the crowd "oohs") and then charges Adams before executing a Cartwheel Bomb. She covers and Outlaw drops down to count.
1!
Kickout!
This time, Adams gets his shoulder up at one and a half. Suddenly, she gets a wicked smirk and goes over to him and sets him up before putting him in his own Lights Out (Tazmission)! She cinches it in, but can’t keep him from inching toward the ropes. She tries to apply more pressure but AJ has inched over enough that he is able to grab the ropes. Outlaw tells her to let go and when she doesn’t, he starts the five count. At the count of four, she finally lets go.
Nick Webb: Vespertine just tried to tap Adams out with his own finishing move! That's not going to go over well with the veteran.
Vespertine gets up quickly, and as Adams is getting up, she pulls him up and then tries to Irish whip him towards the corner. He isn’t having any of that, and reverses it, causing Vespertine to slam her back hard into the corner post. Adams then backs up and executes a clothesline into the corner and when she staggers out of the corner and just before she falls on her face, he performs a running bulldog!
Rayne: We might be seeing the end of Vespertine's crusade to become World Champion of Havok right here, Nick!
AJ picks Vespertine up again and Irish whips her towards the corner. She hits hard and staggers back, right into his waiting arms. He goes for the Last Call (Codebreaker) but as he goes to execute the move, she grabs the ropes and hangs on tight. AJ hits the mat hard, and as he stands back up, Vespertine grabs him and performs a Float Over DDT! Vespertine rolls him over quickly to cover him and Outlaw goes to get in position to count.
1!
2!
Kickout! Vespertine gets on her knees and blows a hair out of her face as she looks down at AJ.
Nick Webb: At this point, Vespertine must be wondering just what she has to do to put AJ Adams away - or if she's even able to!
Rayne: If she lets those feelings of doubt seep in, she's done for!
Refusing to give in, Vespertine slowly picks AJ up and puts him in position for her Suspended Silence (Osaka Street Cutter), but Adams pushes her out of the move. She hits the ropes and comes back, right into a second attempted Last Call, but Vespertine pushes AJ away, leaving him to land hard on the mat again! She wastes no time in getting behind him, pulling him to his feet and hitting a picture-perfect Suspended Silence!
Nick Webb: She got it! We're about to witness a major upset here!
She floats over into the cover as Outlaw drops to count, the crowd counting along!
1!
2!
...
...
...
The crowd starts booing; Adams hasn't kicked out, but the count has stopped! Vespertine looks over, only to see Outlaw standing in the ring, glaring at her!
Rayne: What's this all about?
Vespertine quickly stands up and gets in Outlaw's face, questioning whatever the hell it is he's pulling. He just stares at her before loudly stating "This is between ME and HIM. Deal with it." In a fit of anger, Vespertine slaps the Havok World Champion across the face, and after touching his cheek, he rears back and boots her in the gut before hitting her with his Breaking the Law (Canadian Destroyer)! The crowd boos loudly as Outlaw stands up and dusts off his shirt before stepping back. Slowly, AJ Adams comes to in the ring and reaches his feet. He looks down at Vespertine, who hasn't moved, and at Outlaw, who is just staring at Adams. AJ shrugs before dropping to the mat and cinching in his Lights Out! Without even checking her arm, Outlaw calls for the bell!
WINNER: AJ Adams, via Submission
"Lights Out" by P.O.D. starts playing as AJ Adams stands up, nodding. He looks over at Outlaw, who has just been handed the Havok World Championship, and motions for gold around his waist. Outlaw responds by walking over to Adams and holding the Havok World Title in the air, right next to his face. Both men stare one another down as an "AJ" chant starts up.
Nick Webb: I don't believe this! Outlaw was never going to allow Vespertine to win this match! He wants AJ Adams at Retribution!
Rayne: After all the times Adams attacked him over the last few months, can you blame him? It's called Retribution, Nick, not Let's Give the Token Asian a Title Shot!
Nick Webb: Well, that's not racist at all.
Rayne: I'm glad we agree.
Nick Webb: But... (sighs) Okay. Folks, we're out of time here in Johannesburg! For Rayne, I'm Nick Webb... don't miss an all-new Crisis next Monday night on FXX! As for us, we'll see you at Retribution on September 23! Good night!
We see one last shot of Outlaw and AJ Adams staring each other down, the Havok World Title between them, before the shot fades to the BWF logo, and then finally to black.
