Episode 232 - October 26, 2020
Alison James: The House of Blazenwing is LIVE, and so is BWF Monday Night Havok! I'm Alison James, alongside my colleague Liam Stewart, and Liam, we have a new BWF World Champion in the house!
Liam Stewart: We sure do, Ali. At Retribution, FM Young survived the fabled Hellbound Match and became the first new BWF World Champion of the new era! But no Champion gets to rest on their laurels, and that's why tonight, while FM herself isn't in action, her future championship challenger at Gauntlet Run IS. By the time we go off the air tonight, we'll know who FM is defending that title against at the next pay-per-view. Will it be AJ Adams, Nessa Wall or the returning Zoe Cooper?
Alison James: It's going to be a barn burner, that's for certain, Liam. In addition, we'll also see the newly-reinstated BWF Tag Team Titles on the line tonight, as Johnny Maverick and Finale team up as the... (sighs) Candy Boys 2000 - thank you, Twitter - to take on Kayla Taylor and Krista May Williams of the Freaks With Benefits, who won the titles just a few short weeks ago in a very impromptu match.
Liam Stewart: But FIRST, we kick off the action tonight by determining another Gauntlet Run challenger, as four competitors do battle to determine who will challenge new BWF International Champion Talia Areano for the belt at the event. Let's get it started!
The four way match was about to begin and it was clear that the fans were torn between the newcomer Super Tiger and the long time fan favorite in Vebbins. Vebbins was as bubbly as ever moving around the ring to start the match but it would be the International Champion, Enforcer, who would strike first as he caught Super Tiger with a big spear to kick off the match! He quickly went into a cover but was ganged up on by Vebbins and Taylor who pulled him off and then to his feet. Enforcer tried to battle back against the two and sent Vebbins into the corner. Taylor pulled Enforcer into a side headlock. Vebbins charged at them and ran into a bulldog/clothesline combo from Taylor that also sent Enforcer into the mat. Taylor jumped up to his feet and Super Tiger came flying off the top rope with a crossbody! She rolled up to her feet and Taylor stood, allowing her to take him back down with a slingblade. Super Tiger got right back up to her feet and looked around the ring before locking up with Enforcer. He flipped her around into the corner and started to unload hard punches to the gut. He looked for a clothesline but she ducked under it. Super Tiger charged and ran into a kick to the gut from Enforcer and he looked to powerbomb her but she countered into a headscissors takedown. Super Tiger jumped to her feet as the fans cheered her on and she gave them a wave. This small moment allowed Vebbins an opening and she landed a hard open palm strike to the chest. Vebbins looked for a double axehandle but Super Tiger ducked. She looked for a blue thunder bomb but Vebbins countered into a DDT!
Alison James: Azurine Vebbins came to FIGHT tonight, Liam!
Vebbins went into a cover but was pulled off by Taylor. Taylor pulled Vebbins up to her feet and tried to send her over the top ropes and she landed on the apron. Vebbins tried to springboard in with an axe handle but he caught her in mid-air and delivered a Death Valley Driver and she rolled out of the ring! Taylor hit the ropes and clocked Super Tiger with the Face Meet Boot (Running Big Boot) and she dropped. Enforcer had taken his time and climbed to the top rope and as Taylor turned, he connected with a big clothesline off the top.
Liam Stewart: The former champion with a huge shot to Jaxon Taylor. You know, Enforcer doesn't think he should even be IN this match. Talia lost to him on BWF's return show, got another title shot without earning it, in Enforcer's words, and won the title at Retribution, and now HE has to earn another shot while she didn't? I mean, I'm with him. It's kinda jank, Ali.
Alison James: Be that as it may, Liam, I'm sure our boss has her reasons for doing things this way.
Liam Stewart: A dartboard, a blindfold and dumb luck, I assume. Haha!
Enforcer covered but only just barely got two before Taylor kicked out. Enforcer pulled Taylor up and into position for his Death Penalty (DDT) but Taylor speared him into the corner. Taylor drove his knee into the gut of Enforcer before lifting him to the top rope. Taylor climbed up to the second rope and was going to attempt a bulldog off the middle turnbuckle but Super Tiger came running up the rope beside him and flipped him off and down to the mat with a hurricanrana! Super Tiger was fired up as Taylor crawled to the middle rope and she hit him with the There and Back Again (Tiger Feint Kick). Super Tiger was back in the ring but Vebbins was right there to hit her Sweetheart Sock Hop (Two knees into the sternum, followed by a Superkick into a Pulled-In DDT) combo. Vebbins covered but could only get two before Enforcer pulled her off. Vebbins started to fight back and pushed Enforcer away but had to quickly fight back Taylor. Taylor looked for another Death Valley Driver but Vebbins fought out and landed on her feet. Vebbins jumped back up and spiked Taylor to the mat with a DDT. Super Tiger was starting to get back up and Vebbins clotheslined her over the top rope but they both went tumbling to the outside.
Alison James: Super Tiger and Azurine both over the top rope! If this was the Gauntlet Run, both women would have just been eliminated from the match.
Liam Stewart: Instead, they'll just have bruises... and potentially, no title opportunity, because this match is only ending on the inside of the ring, and right now, that just leaves Enforcer and Jaxon Taylor!
This left Enforcer and Taylor all alone and Taylor was slowly getting back up to his feet. Enforcer pulled Taylor in and delivered the Death Penalty. Taylor started to stand but was rocked with a Mafia Kick! Enforcer started to go for a cover but was rolled up from behind with a bridging backslide pin from Vebbins and she picked up the win!
WINNER AND NEW #1 CONTENDER: Azurine Vebbins, via Pinfall [14:43]
"Radio Gaga" by Queen started playing over the BlazenTron as Azurine quickly rolled out of the ring and looked shocked. The referee held her arm up as Enforcer sat in the ring, literally seething with rage.
Alison James: Oh my goodness! Enforcer had that match won, but Vebbins came out of nowhere and -
Liam Stewart: She STOLE that win, Alison. Go ahead, say it. She STOLE it.
Alison James: I mean, no, Liam! It was entirely legal given the match type. Honestly a witty move from the - OH NO!
Alison's thought is interrupted and the music abruptly stops as Enforcer quickly rolls out of the ring and clotheslines Azurine down hard. He immediately starts beating on her, leading to several referees and officials pulling him off. Azurine gets to her feet and coughs, trying to make some distance as Enforcer, still raging, yells loudly and incoherently.
Liam Stewart: That was AWESOME. Look at that passion, Ali!
Alison James: Passion!? More like sore loser!
Liam Stewart: Careful, or you'll be next!
Alison James: Ugh. Anyway... stay tuned folks, we've got more Havok to come, and hopefully, officials can get this under control during the commercial break.
Just a Peek...
The camera is peeking through the crack in a door and we see a figure from behind in a room lit by only a single lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. He’s wearing a large red cloak and seems to be talking to someone in front of him who we can’t see.
The Crimson Ghost: No… no I promised I would be a good boy. I’m not going to hurt… no not that much. It’s not like that anymore. Good boy. Have to be a good boy.
There is a moment of silence and he cocks his head slightly.
The Crimson Ghost: He seems… nice. Complimented me on the piano. I love the piano. I’m getting so much better. Not going to hurt him. Not bad. Still. Work to do. Work to do.
There is silence another moment before the Ghost growls in frustration.
The Crimson Ghost: Well if that’s what you want then go find HIM. He didn’t want you anymore. Cast you out. I’m here. Just have to be a good boy. Just have to...hm? Someone else?
Suddenly the single light bulb goes out for a brief moment. When it comes back on the masked face of the Crimson Ghost is right in front of the camera. We hear the actual cameraman audibly yelp with fright.
The Crimson Ghost: Not nice to peek…
The Ghost slams the door closed, but not before we get a glimpse over his shoulder at who he was talking to…
The original Crimson Ghost mask inside of a glass case with a red velvet fabric lining, propped up in a chair.
The Highlights...
- Crimson Ghost had the full horror-style ring introduction that fans of the old gimmick were waiting for. Kasey Kash seemed unimpressed.
- Ghost started off strong, but Kasey soon took control and worked on protecting his neck and head, showing that he scouted his opponent ahead of time.
- Kash scored several near falls, but momentum solidly shifted once Ghost countered an Aussie Knee Party (Shining Wizard) into a wicked powerbomb onto Kash's neck.
The Finish...
Ghost's victory seemed all but assured following the powerbomb, as he began to work solely on Kash's neck. Kash started fighting back, prompting Ghost to unleash his Crimson Mist (The Ghost spits a burning/temporarily blinding red mist in his opponents eyes) out of instinct, catching Kash right between the eyes. The referee, somehow, misses this as Ghost hits Kash with the Red Dead Removal (Buzzsaw Roundhouse Kick to head of kneeling opponent) and covers for the win.
WINNER: The Crimson Ghost, via Pinfall [8:32]
"Spider Baby" by Fantomas plays as The Crimson Ghost rises to a single knee. The referee finally spots the red mist on Kash's face and questions Ghost about it, but Ghost merely shrugs before exiting the ring and making his way up the ramp.
Alison James: Okay, I mean... THAT was cheating.
Liam Stewart: No, Alison, that was AWESOME. Did you see that? Dude just straight up tagged Kash with his FACE.
Alison James: I mean, that's not really what... okay, Liam. Sure. He absolutely did.
Liam Stewart: Who can possibly beat anybody who has that power?
Alison James: ...do you not know how... you know what, nevermind. It's not important.
Liam Stewart: CRIMSON GHOST FOR PRESIDENT 2020! RED MIST ALL THE THINGS!
Coming Soon to the BWF Network & PPV
The Highlights...
- Despite never teaming before (regardless of claims to the contrary on Twitter), Johnny and Finale seemed to have instant chemistry. On the other side, Kayla and Krista, despite being long-time partners, still seemed a bit rocky given their recent personal issues with one another.
- Johnny and Finale kept a revolving door on their side of the ring, constantly tagging out and working over Krista's arm, doing their best to keep her from tagging Kayla in.
- Eventually, Krista managed to get the hot tag, but any momentum she managed to gain withered away when she realized Krista was too hurt to tag back in.
The Finish...
At ringside, officials checked Krista's arm even as the challengers continued wearing Kayla down. After telling Krista she was best off exiting the match and getting examined, Krista swore them out, refusing to abandon her partner. (Most of the team's current issues are with Kayla being upset with Krista.) When Kayla got whipped into the Freaks' corner, Krista, determined to save her, tagged herself in, but her bum arm quickly cost her, as Finale sequestered Kayla outside of the ring and Johnny applied The Perfect Armbar (Double Underhook Suplex floated over into a Cross Armbreaker) to Krista, netting the Candy Boys 2000 a nearly-immediate tap out from Krista and the BWF Tag Team Titles.
WINNERS AND NEW BWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: Johnny Maverick & Finale, via Submission [17:11]
"Subtle Hustle" by Clutch played over the BlazenTron as Johnny and Finale began celebrating with their newly-won Tag Team Titles. At ringside, Kayla, while disappointed, checked on Krista with genuine concern for her partner, despite their recent differences.
Alison James: ...uh, wow. Johnny Maverick and Finale are the new BWF Tag Team Champions.
Liam Stewart: CANDY BOYS 2000!!! I ALWAYS KNEW YOU TWO CRAZY KIDS WOULD MAKE IT TO THE BIG TIME!
Alison James: ...right. Can these two co-exist as Champions, or will their egos get the best of them? Is this a temporary alliance or something more?
Liam Stewart: The Candy Boys 2000 are a DYNASTY, Alison! Through thick and thin, nothing will EVER see these two separated from each other - OR their new BWF Tag Team Titles!
Alison James: I look forward to seeing how accurate you are, Liam.
Liam Stewart: ...oh hey, does this mean Johnny has to pay for Finale's boat now?
Hit It, Ladies
Outside of the arena, we head to the parking garage attached. We focus on an old, rusted, 1960 Pugeot D4 van parked in a random spot. We see it shaking and rattling a little bit before the back of the van opens up and inside, we see two women, both not completely dressed just yet, the one with brown, long hair done in dreadlocks was in her bra and she had baggy cargo pants on. The other one, a Japanese girl with her neon blue hair pulled up in long pigtails. She’s half dressed in a sports bra and sweatpants, taking a big rip from a hookah. Her exposed arms, shoulders and upper torso are completely covered in tats. More so than the other girl. Smoke billows from her mouth before she even sets the hose down and she goes into a coughing fit; smoke spewing from her mouth and nose like an angry dragon.
Chiaki Sanada: Ohhhh shit!
In almost comical fashion, she falls back onto the old mattress with a comforter that’s seen better days spread out on top, still coughing like a dying fish out of water. The other woman just laughs as she sits down and helps the young woman sit up and she pats her back a little, trying to help her catch her breath once again before looking at her.
Jane Harper: Careful, Chi Chi, don’t kill yourself before our big match tonight. We have some ass we need to kick for the love of god.
Chiaki coughs and hacks, leaning into her tag partner for support but she also pops the hookah hose right up into Jane’s mouth.
Chiaki Sanada: Hit dat shit.
She punches herself in the chest a couple times as Jane hits the hookah. That’s when she notices the camera on them and nudges the other girl with her elbow, pointing out that they’re apparently being broadcasted. Chiaki gets up on her hands and knees and crawls to the edge of the van as the camera pans in. So close her face is RIGHT THERE in the lens for a moment. She reaches up with a pointed finger nail and taps the lens.
Chiaki Sanada: Nanda? Dis a promo?
She sits back on her butt next to Jane and throws an “East side” street gesture to the camera.
Jane Harper: It sure looks like it’s either that or a pervert trying to creep on us in our underwear, but I’m guessing promo time.
Jane laughs as she grabs her tank top and puts it on, covering herself up as she looks at Chiaki before grabbing the young woman’s shirt and tossing it at her, hitting her right in the face.
Jane Harper: Put your shirt on, Chi Chi.
Chiaki yelps as her shirt hits her face and she gets up on her knees to put it on but first she looks at the camera and shrugs.
Chiaki Sanada: Oi! Hunnid dolla, Only Fans, muhfuckah!
She snaps the waistline of her sweat pants before pulling her tattered, white t-shirt on. The damn thing practically fits her like a mini dress as she plops back down on her butt, sitting cross legged beside Jane. Jane just shakes her head at Chaiki’s comment before she puts an arm around her friend and smiles at her.
Jane Harper: Tonight’s the night, Chi Chi. Tonight we make our debut here in BWF and tonight we make that cash for the first time. Tonight we face off with a team called The Shellys, must be brother and sister. Maybe husband and wife? I don’t fucking know, all I know is that tonight is our chance to come in and make our first statement and whoop some ass. I know my homegirl Chi Chi has been itching for a good fight and so have I, right, little homie?
As Jane’s speaking, Chiaki has her phone out with her attention honed in on it. She’s not just browsing. She’s studying something. Right on cue then she nudges Jane with her elbow and slaps her thigh with her hand, showing the phone to her.
Chiaki Sanada: Ahhhhh! Jane-chan! See see? Dey Bee Dub Eff Harru of Fame! Multi-champ!
She looks up from the phone and at the camera excitedly. A little gleam in her odd colored eyes from the silver contacts she wears. Chiaki grins wide, baring her notably pointed canines. The little Joshi can go from adorable to downright intimidating in terms of facial expressions, clearly.
Chiaki Sanada: Dey big time! Dat make us big time when we whup yo ass!
Chiaki’s amused. Probably more than their opponents if they’re watching this but, regardless, she quivers with excitement and bounces in place. Clearly the idea of debuting against opponents with some real pedigree has her feeling thrilled where some might feel cautious. Jane slapped Chiaki on the back, grinning from ear to ear as she sees just how excited her friend is at this opportunity to debut against such big names here in BWF.
Jane Harper: Damn right! Tonight is a massive opportunity for the two of us. We take down hall of famers and multi time champions, that puts us right on the map and that comes with so much more money coming our way and opportunities that can only get better and better.
Jane sits up on her knees, grabbing the hookah and putting it behind the two of them as she looks Chiaki in the eyes.
Jane Harper: We gotta whoop their asses and get that win tonight, Chi Chi. We have the element of surprise on them too. They don’t know what they’re stepping into the ring with tonight where we have tons of tapes and matches of theirs to have used for scouting. We got the speed, the striking, and the resilience to come out of this one on top!
Chiaki reaches up and double pats Jane’s cheeks. That is to say she claps Jane’s cheeks in silly fashion. Her own idea of a comforting gesture.
Chiaki Sanada: Jane-chaaaaan! Shinpaishinaide! Jane-chan right! Sherreys not know who dey fuckin’ with! 2 Broke Chicks gonna whup dat ass and make dat cash! Yosh! Ganbarimasu!
Chiaki throws a hand up and ends up punching the roof of the van for effect. Something draws the attention of the girls out of frame then.
Backstage Attendant: Ahem. Uhhh...are you the 2 Broke Chicks?
Chiaki Sanada: Ayy whassuh?!
Backstage Attendant: Y’all are up next. Passing it along.
Chiaki shoots the gun finger at the man and clicks her tongue. She falls back on her butt and just grabs her shoes, starting to pull them on. Jane slides on her boots and gives them a quick tie before she gets up and heads towards the front of the van as she gets into the driver’s seat of the van and turns the key. The engine turns and turns, but doesn’t start. Jane does it again and once again, the engine turns, but doesn’t start again.
Jane Harper: God damnit, start!
Jane slams on the dash this time before turning the key once again and after the engine turns over a few times, the van starts up and a puff of smoke shoots out of the tailpipe up towards the camera and you can hear the attendant and cameraman coughing.
Jane Harper: Chi Chi, close the doors, we have to get to the arena and get ready for a fight!
Chiaki finishes pulling on a baggy hoodie then closes one door, pausing to throw their tag team hand gesture at the camera before she pulls the other door closed. It doesn’t latch and she has to try twice...three times....finally SLAMMING it shut the fourth time before it latches closed. The van backfires again as it sloooowly pulls away, picking up speed. The cameraman and attendant are still coughing their lungs up as the shot cuts away.
Alison James: The 2 Broke Chicks make their BWF debut... right after this commercial break!
The Highlights...
- Both Gabe and Katie Shelley seemed a bit off-put by the quirky newcomers as the match get underway. The Hall of Fame couple seemed to have trouble predicting what Jane and Chiaki would do, which is likely exactly what the 2 Broke Chicks were aiming for.
- Katie looked to redeem herself tonight and, a few times, refused to tag Gabe in because she was that determined to prove she still belonged.
- As Katie gained the upper hand on Jane, a video cut in from backstage, showing Finale celebrating his Tag Title win still (Johnny seemingly MIA at the moment). Finale shook a bottle of the bubbly and it popped, spraying everywhere. The camera zoomed out a bit and we saw that Finale was inside the Shelleys' locker room, getting all of their gear and belongings (accidentally?) wet with champagne. Angry, Gabe quickly took off towards the backstage area, leaving his wife on her own against Jane and Chiaki.
The Finish...
Katie hit the Red Ring of Death (Swanton Bomb) on Jane and went for the cover, but Chiaki broke up the pin before 3. From there, the Chicks executed a series of team maneuvers, putting Katie down hard. She tried to tag in, but realized too late that her husband was missing from ringside, leaving her wide open for the Pay Day (Doomsday Destroyer: Jane lifts, Chiaki hits the Destroyer) and the pinfall victory for the debuting team.
WINNERS: 2 Broke Chicks, via Pinfall [13:18]
"Make Em Bleed" by Słoń & Dope D.O.D. plays as the 2 Broke Chicks celebrate their win, and no doubt, all the money that win would bring to their bank accounts.
The Highlights...
- Both champions showcased respect for one another as the match kicked off. This is definitely a battle between two fan favorites, as the fans start a "Both these guys" chant.
- Talia and Anaru trade off near falls early, with Anaru in particular showcasing an ability to keep up with Talia's speed that seemingly surprises everyone.
The Finish...
Just as this match was beginning to get really good, Enforcer showed up out of nowhere, jumped the barricade, slid into the ring and speared Talia. When Anaru tried to grab him, Enforcer speared him as well. With both competitors down and an angry Enforcer on the loose (again), the referee had no choice but to throw the match out.
WINNER: No Contest [7:56]
The fans popped briefly as Azurine Vebbins showed up and went after Enforcer, but the former International Champion repelled her assault and laid her out alongside the two champions. Still seething, Enforcer exited the ring, grabbed both the International and Sovereign Titles and took them backstage as Havok faded to commercial.
Enforcing the Law of the Land
Backstage, we saw an irate Emily Corlen dressing down Enforcer, who was still in possession of the International and Sovereign Titles.
Emily Corlen: Look, I'm sorry you didn't get an automatic rematch for the title. But this behavior is unacceptable. You lost tonight, and you need to return those titles to their rightful owners.
Enforcer looked like he was going to argue as he got in tight with the boss, both stars staring one another down. Finally, Enforcer threw both belts down on the ground and started to walk away... only to find Talia, Anaru and Azurine all standing behind him, waiting. A short brawl started before Emily and several BWF officials broke the fight up.
Emily Corlen: Okay, okay... ENOUGH! LOOK. If you four really want to kick each other's asses that badly... then fine. At Gauntlet Run, Enforcer, you'll get the title shot you want, but it'll be on MY terms, and that goes for the rest of you as well. It'll be Enforcer versus Azurine Vebbins versus International Champion Talia Areano versus Sovereign Champion Anaru Kalua in a Two Falls Double Title Match.
The fans cheered as the four competitors stared each other down.
Emily Corlen: The first fall will be for the Sovereign Championship. The second, the International Championship. Yes, that means one of you could walk out with both titles... or neither. That'll be decided at Gauntlet Run. Until then... UNTIL THEN! I don't want to see any of you four so much as breathe in the same room as one another unless I sanction it. Like next week, Enforcer, since you want to make enemies of anyone and everyone in BWF... you can face all three of the competitors you blindsided tonight in a HANDICAP MATCH.
The crowd roared as Enforcer seethed again. Emily pauses for a beat.
Emily Corlen: ...you can all go now. GO.
Everyone exited the area in different directions as Emily shook her head and sighed before the camera shifted back to the ring.
The Highlights...
- The match kicked off with Zoe Cooper immediately charging AJ Adams and hitting him with the Face Replacer (Busaiku Knee Kick)! Even Nessa seemed a little surprised - and amused... until Zoe went for the cover, of course. Nessa quickly broke it up and the match got underway in earnest.
- AJ quickly recovered and went to work tearing down both women, no doubt incensed by the results of Hellbound. He hit both women with finishers and went for the cover, first on Nessa, then on Zoe, but both kicked out before three.
- Nessa and Zoe recovered, and while they did attack each other, it seemed as though their first priority was to neutralize Adams, which as Alison James pointed out on commentary, was a wise move, considering Adams' place in BWF history as one of only two 4-time BWF World Champions.
The Finish...
Going into the finish of the match, Adams had all the momentum, as he had Zoe on the ropes and Nessa knocked down on the outside. Zoe wrested control from AJ, started fighting back and spotted Nessa sliding back into the ring. With Adams on his knees, both women charged at him, both aiming a knee at his head.
Liam Stewart: A Kissy Kissy/Face Replacer combo!
At the last second, though, Adams ducked down, leaving both women to collide into one another! Zoe rolled out of the ring as Adams groggily pulled Nessa to the corner, lifting her up and seemingly setting her up for a Legacy Maker (Sister Abigail) from the top rope... but Nessa countered out of it, shifted her body weight and brought AJ down with the Snarktopus Splash (Cyclorama)! With Zoe still down on the outside, Nessa covered Adams and scored the win!
WINNER AND NEW #1 CONTENDER: Nessa Wall, via Pinfall [23:11]
"She's a Genius" by Jet started playing as Nessa sat on the mat, taking a deep breath and no doubt soaking in her victory.
Alison James: Nessa Wall is the #1 Contender! Nessa Wall is going to Gauntlet Run!
Liam Stewart: What a finish! Bodies flying everywhere, but only one superstar could win, and tonight, that is Nessa Wall!
As Nessa started to pull herself to her feet, "Helix" by Amaranthe hit the BlazenTron and FM Young walked out onto the stage, her BWF World Championship hoisted high in the air. She pointed at Nessa as both women began an intense staredown.
Alison James: And there she is, the BWF World Champion! Liam, these two titanesses will clash at Gauntlet Run for the richest prize in the industry today. Who wins between these two?
Liam Stewart: The fans, Alison! This match is going to be one for the ages!
Alison James: I can't argue with that. Folks, we're just about out of time here tonight. For Liam Stewart, I'm Alison James... good night from the House of Blazenwing! We'll see you next week!
One final shot of the two deadly women staring one another down, before the show faded to the BWF logo, and finally to black.
