Home sweet home.
The Blazenwing Wrestling Federation is set to return after 1193 days.
1193 days since the bell rang.
I got to be honest with you, I didn't think I was going to be making a return.
428 days.
That's how long it'll have been between matches for myself. I won't beat around the bush. I lost that match against one hell of a competitor. He was able to get the best of me and it was the last match I had in Elysium Pro. I thought that I would be back at it within a couple weeks but I wasn't. I stepped away from the ring and started to just spend time with my wife and our daughter. I did the stay at home dad thing for a while and it was nice. I thought I was content. Then, in the summer of 2018, Empire Wrestling came back and I helped out. It's been very hush and on the down-low but I've been helping train some, produce their shows, and lend a hand when needed. Then it happened.
Then it started. That itch. Anyone who has stepped away from the wrestling ring knows exactly what I'm talking about. You feel this desire, this need to step back into the ring. So I started to think, even talked it over with Katie. Then the rumbles started. The whispers. Blazenwing.
Then it happened. The big announcement that Blazenwing Wrestling Federation was coming back after those 1193 days. I still wasn't going to step back into the ring. Then IT happened.
Finale.
When I look at my career as a whole there's only a handful of names that I consider true rivals and he sits at the top of that list. The Buffalo Butcher versus Mad Dogg. Super Shredder versus the marVel. How could I help myself at that point?
There's Azurine Vebbins. I've seen Azzy's work first hand over the years. This isn't her first rodeo in the umbrella of BWF as she kicked around in Empire Wrestling when it was BWF's developmental company. Azzy was always the one that had the talent but just couldn't tap into winning the important ones when it mattered. I was always a fan and tried to work with her when I could. Since then she's well traveled and has even started to put championship gold around her waist. She's even teamed up with her opponent for the first show back, Talia Areano.
Talia even spent almost 100 days with the Empire Wrestling Primetime Title last summer. She's another that, at least when it came to her BWF career, always fell just a little short. She has the talent, the experience, and she's ready to put it all together. I know that Talia and Azzy didn't end on the best of terms in EW so it'll be exciting to see how this plays out. Their match has so much on the line for the two of them. They both want to prove something in this company and winning the International Championship would do that.
On the flip side of that match could be either Enforcer or Anaru Kalua. Helping out in Empire Wrestling, I last saw Enforcer getting chokeslammed by Daniel Daemon. Kalua, however, is the biggest unknown. This sounds like it might even be his first big wrestling gig. This could be a big night for him, making a big splash and earning even a shot at the International Championship. We've all seen it and all it takes is one moment to make something happen.
AJ Adams? FM Young? Two of the biggest names in wrestling right now have made their way to BWF. AJ Adams, the "greatest BWF champion of all time”. AJ is ready to come back to BWF and reclaim the BWF World Championship. He’s been all about his legacy for a long time now and it’s going to eat at him that he’s tied with four title reigns. He’s going to be fighting with a vengeance and ready to push his way to the top. AJ is going to do whatever it takes to become a five time BWF World Champion.
He’ll have a tough first fight against FM Young. She has unfinished business in BWF. Championship gold. It was her for five minutes before having it stolen away and she never got a chance for redemption. She’s been all around the world and has been getting better and better. FM has the chance to be an amazing champion. Will she be?
Then, my wife, Katie. I’m sure that she and I will compete against each other at some point and it won’t be the first time. I know exactly why she’s making a return to BWF too. She tried this back in 2018 and it was short lived when she went to Empire Wrestling. Katie has always been someone that likes to compete; video games, board games, wrestling, you name it. She tried to make a comeback in 2018 to show that she still had it after having our daughter but she got hurt just a few matches in. After some rehab and time to refocus, she’s ready to return again. Who knows, maybe we’ll team up at some point.
We have my opponent for the first show back, Johnny Maverick. Johnny and I aren’t strangers to each other either. If memory serves me right we both have some wins against each other over the years. Johnny has been ready for a fight for ages it feels like. He’s ready for a big solo run, as we all are, to prove a little something. I don’t know if this is to prove to himself or someone else but a determined Johnny is a hard Johnny to beat. I get the honor of doing just that on Monday night.
Finale. Rory, I’m so glad you invited me personally to follow you to BWF. The last time we danced I had a company taken away from you. I’m sure there’s a little bit of hard feelings there and I know that you can’t wait to get me in the ring. I also can’t wait because when I think of my 17 year career you’re the or near the top of my favorite rivalries. Mark McNasty, Chamelion, Outlaw, Alexander O'Ryan, Kyle Cross, I can keep going but the one that always gets me excited to step into the ring even to this day is you, Rory. Be it putting me through tables, busting me open, trying to hang my nieces in the middle of the ring, the idea of Finale versus Gabe Shelley is always exciting. It’s always a draw.
The BWF is going to need that big draw and they’ll have it. I can already imagine WrestleFest X. Finale versus Gabe Shelley. You might be the end, but this rivalry will never end.
Blazenwing Wrestling Federation, it’s time to refocus. Gabe Shelley is back.
