Episode 213 - November 23, 2015
Nick Webb: We’re one week away from the 2015 Gauntlet Run! Next week someone will join the six other sole survivors and book their ticket to WrestleFest’s main event and a BWF World Championship. Who will book their ticket to WrestleFest?
Rayne: Many superstars have tried but only a special five have done it. X twice, The Big O, Katie James, Raizzor, and Elena Simonova. It’s a tremendous opportunity, Nick. Three out of those five are current Hall of Famers.
Nick Webb: It’ll be quite a challenge as the winner will have to outlast twenty-nine other competitors. I can’t wait to see who steps up this year. We’ll also find out tonight who will face Brianna Park for the Sovereign Championship next week. Kaito Hirano fell short at AXW’s Supershow event after Brianna was disqualified for pulling the referee into a blow by Kaito. He wants another shot but he must get through Martin Karloff first. We have plenty more on tap as well.
Rayne: Like tonight’s main event. AJ Adams and Sabrina Scott team up to take on AJ’s opponent for Gauntlet Run, Calypso, and his follower, Tartarus. There’s been some tension between Sabrina and AJ since last month but they’ll put it aside for tonight.
Nick Webb: I’m sure that has made things awkward in their personal lives.
Rayne: Last I heard she’s avoided him for weeks now.
Throwing Down the Gauntlet
As Rayne and Webb finish their intro, we join AXW World Champion (and BWF Founder) David Slayton already in the ring, as Fall Out Boy’s “The Phoenix” slowly fades out.
David Slayton: Chicago, make some noise!
The crowd pops loudly.
Rayne: Suck up.
David Slayton: Folks, it’s been a rough few weeks for the man once known as David Blazenwing. Sure, I won the AXW World Title – my eighth World Title, for those of you playing the home game – but almost immediately after that, ol’ Johnny Bird got the best of me inside Hell in a Cell at Wreckless.
The crowd boos.
David Slayton: Oh, sorry, let me rephrase that. John-Bird and his B.B.B.F.F. Duncan Donuts got the best of me at Wreckless. Though, in Dunc-o’s defense, I DID jump him after his big title defense in AXW and cash in my Xperience Title for a World Title Match of my own right after. So, maybe that’s on me. Karma’s a bitch… and so is Duncan Aries.
The crowd cheers and Slayton smirks before continuing.
David Slayton: But, enough about my own problems. See, I’m out here to make a challenge. No, no, I’m not challenging AJ Adams to a Championship Unification Match. I already kicked his ass years ago for title #7.
He turns to the camera.
David Slayton: Still talking with a slur, AJ? Ha ha, kidding, kidding. The guy’s tops. He knows I’m just messing with him. No, this challenge is directed at Jonathan Fhenix and Duncan Aries. Last month at Wreckless, you two conspired to screw me over. I say you don’t stand a chance in hell if you face me on even terms. So, let’s do this one more time at Gauntlet Run. New York City, Madison Square Garden… Jonathan Fhenix and Duncan Aries in a tag team match versus David Slayton and my partner –
Before Slayton can even speak the name of his partner, he is blindsided from behind by Duncan Aries! Aries starts laying into Slayton as Fhenix hops the barricade, steel chair in one hand, mic in the other.
Jonathan Fhenix: You made a mistake coming back here, Davey Boy. I guess you didn’t learn your lesson at Wreckless. What do you say, Duncan? Should we tenderize him a little before you get your inevitable rematch for your AXW Title?
Aries doesn’t answer, continuing to lay into Slayton with punches.
Jonathan Fhenix: I’ll take that as a yes. Do save some for me, won’t you?
The crowd boos loudly as Fhenix enters the ring, tossing the mic aside. He paces around Slayton, still down on the mat, as he brandishes the chair menacingly. Aries lifts Slayton’s face up and Fhenix leans down, scowling and yelling.
Jonathan Fhenix: I always told you this could only end one way, Blazenwing. I am the better man; I always have been, and I always will be. Now, it’s time to put you out of everybody else’s misery.
Aries holds Slayton, who has begun bleeding from his forehead, up as Fhenix readies the chair for a massive swing into the BWF Founder’s head. Before he can lower the blow, however, “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy hits the BlazenTron and the Chicago crowd comes unglued!
Nick Webb: IS THAT… IT IS!
Rayne: Elena Simonova is here!
The Red Russian charges down the ramp, barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat in hand. She slides into the ring and ducks a chair swing from Fhenix, then continues running and connects with a kick to Aries’ face! Duncan rolls out of the ring and Elena turns, ready to strike Fhenix. Wisely, Fhenix decides to cut his losses and exits the ring, regrouping with Aries on the outside.
Nick Webb: Folks, Jonathan Fhenix put Elena Simonova on the shelf months ago simply because she happens to be David Slayton’s girlfriend. Well, this whole mess just came full circle, because now Elena is the one who has Fhenix retreating!
Rayne: Retreating? Please! Fhenix and Aries are just letting these two idiots think they have the upper hand before finishing them off once and for all!
Indeed, Fhenix is on the ramp, holding the mic he tossed away earlier.
Jonathan Fhenix: You two think you have what it takes to match our excellence? So be it. I hope you two are happy with one another, because at Gauntlet Run, you will both be wrestling your final match in this business. And that, my friends, is rather tragic indeed.
“Centuries” begins playing even as Fhenix and Aries look on from the stage. In the ring, Elena is alternating between checking on David’s condition and glaring daggers into the duo she and Slayton will be facing in one week.
Nick Webb: What a match! As if Gauntlet Run wasn’t already a premiere event, now you have this match that could easily be the main event of any major show! Gauntlet Run is shaping up to be an unforgettable event – and it is ONLY available on the BWF Network!
Rayne: Yeah yeah, you shill. Let’s focus on tonight. We’ve got some amazing matches! Because Danny Hall already wrestled on Breakthrough before we went on the air! HA!
Nick Webb: Be nice, Rayne. In-ring action, right after this break. Don’t go anywhere!
The three competitors circled the ring and Blazenwing took the first blow from Fenryr. Figgins jumped into the fray and they three exchanged blows. Fenryr caught Figgins with a back elbow and took her down with a German suplex. Fenryr rolled to his feet and turned right into a hard kick to the side of the leg. Blazenwing hit Fenryr with a European uppercut and pulled him into a lock up. Blazenwing looked for a belly to belly slam but Fenryr countered into an overhead belly to belly suplex. Figgins was up and hit Fenryr with a running dropkick that sent him flying into the corner. Figgins pulled Blazenwing up and sent him into the corner with Fenryr and he crashed into him. Figgins charged and hit a corner splash on them both. She pulled Blazenwing into the center of the ring and looked for the Destiny Hammer (Corkscrew Scissor Kick) but Blazenwing moved out of the way. She stumbled after the miss and was hit with Fenryr’s Maul (Double Axe Handle). Blazenwing charged Fenryr and was lifted into the air and dropped with the 9-9-9 (Gorilla Press Slam). Fenryr grabbed Figgins and pulled her into position and delivered the Hel Road (Double Underhook Powerbomb). Fenryr went to cover but was rolled up from behind with a school boy and Blazenwing picked up a shocking win.
WINNER: Jay Blazenwing, via pinfall 9:13
Da Bomb is going to start things off for her team as Johnny Maverick is ready for his. Da Bomb kept looking at Linette and the International Championship as Kurt Hullum was shown sitting at ringside for the match, watching his opponent for Gauntlet Run. Da Bomb and Maverick lock up and Maverick hits a few forearms. Da Bomb pulled Maverick down with an arm drag and applied a standing armbar but Maverick slipped away. Da Bomb charged and connected with a running tornado DDT. Maverick rolled into his corner and made the tag to Dagger. Dagger entered the ring and ducked a clothesline and hit the ropes. She came running back and hit a wheel kick. Da Bomb hit the mat hard and rolled to her feet and right into a suplex. Da Bomb looked for a tag but Dagger grabbed her foot and dropped her with a clothesline. Dagger waited for Da Bomb to get to her feet and looked for a DDT but it was reversed into a northern lights suplex. Da Bomb made the tag to Linette and she came in fast. Linette drove her knee into the gut of Dagger and then took her down with a belly to back suplex. The camera panned over to Hullum who appeared bored as he yawned. Linette pulled Dagger to her feet and sent her into the ropes and connected with Rain-BOOM (Busaiku Knee). Dagger fell towards her corner and tagged out to Maverick. Maverick came in and hit a charging Linette with a forearm. He tried to lift her up for the Welcome to DC (Reverse GTS) but she slipped away. Maverick turned and dropped Linette with a DDT. Linette crawled to her corner as Da Bomb thought about tagging or not and she reached out for the tag. Maverick grabbed Linette’s leg and she rose on the other and connected with an enziguri. Linette stood and was grabbed from behind and hit with the Kurtain Kall (Hangman’s Facebuster) by Hullum who had seen enough!
WINNERS: Xaria Linette and Da Bomb, via DQ 9:42
Phantom and Hirano circled each other as the bell sounded to start things off. The two men locked up and tried to gain the upperhand early. Hirano locked in a hammerlock as he slipped behind Phantom but Phantom was able to spin away and locked in a side headlock. Hirano tried to push off but Phantom dropped to a knee and kept the headlock applied. Phantom was slowly pulled to his feet and lifted up and down with a belly to back suplex. Hirano rolled to his feet and Phantom was up shortly after and ducked under a kick aimed for his head. Phantom grabbed Hirano and hit the Sine Pax (Straight Jacket Suplex into Bridged Pin) but could only get a two count as Hirano kicked out. Hirano battled to his feet and landed a series of kicks on Phantom. Hirano grabbed the arms of Phantom and dropped him with a cross-arm neckbreaker. He stood over Phantom and hit a standing shooting star press and covered but could only get two. Phantom staggered up to his feet and had to quickly duck an incoming clothesline and flowed into the Sine Oculus (Pele Kick). Phantom rolled Hirano into a cover but only got two and was upset at the count, believing it was three. Hirano stumbled up to his feet and took a hard forearm to the face. Phantom sent Hirano into the corner and charged, running into a boot to the face. Phantom staggered away and fell to a knee as Hirano came out of the corner and hit the Yoi Yume O (Running Knee to Knelt Opponent). He scrambled and lifted Phantom to his feet and lifted him up before connecting with Oyasumi (Fireman’s Carry to Overhead Kick) and covered for the win.
WINNER: Kaito Hirano, via pinfall 11:33
Hirano rolled into the corner and reached between the ropes and asked for a microphone. He climbed to his feet after being handed on and looked towards the backstage area.
Kaito Hirano: Brianna Park. You may have the Sovereign Championship but you are not the hero of Asia. A hero would never demand the people to bow down to them. You think that you know me but you do not. No one had to vouch for me to get to where I am. I worked hard every day in the original EWA gym to get to where I am. I trained alongside two of the best tag team champions that have ever stepped foot in the BWF, Miss Alison James and Miss Destiny Figgins. I spared with a great former International Champion, Austin Scott. I earned my chance to be here. You have tried to tarnish my name and I have sat by, quiet. No more. At Gauntlet Run I take back my honor and defeat you for the fans and for all of Asia. Anata wa shippai shimasu [あなたは失敗します。] You will fail.
He dropped the microphone and headed towards the back.
Nick Webb: I’ve gotten word that Jonathan Fhenix’s run in buddy, Duncan Aries has been escorted out of the arena after tonight’s opening segment.
Rayne: Good! He’s not under contract here in BWF and has no reason to be anywhere near a BWF ring.
Nick Webb: The Wyatts feel that it’s best if he not be permitted in the arena. Also, big news for the upcoming match, it appears that Alexander King has been replaced by Luke Mathews. Mathews, as you may know, runs AXW and is accused of favoritism by Fhenix towards Dave Slayton. Fhenix believes that Mathews has pulled the right strings to make sure Slayton is the AXW Champion.
We get word that the originally scheduled Fhenix versus Alexander King match was changed to now feature Fhenix taking on Luke Mathews. It was not long after the bell sounded that Mathews and Fhenix began to tear into each other with hard lefts and rights. Fhenix speared Mathews into the corner and unleashed a series of right hands. He became distracted as David Slayton and Elena Simonova came out to the stage to a pop. Fhenix was blindsided as his attention was elsewhere and Mathews landed a series of hard forearms to the back of Fhenix’s head. Mathews sent Fhenix into the ropes and caught him with a side walk slam. Mathews pulled Fhenix into a cover but got just one. Fhenix climbed to his feet and drove his knee into the gut of his opponent and lifted him up, bringing him down with a suplex. Mathews rolled to his feet and right into a neckbreaker. Fhenix pulled Mathews up but took a hard shot to the side and then took a forearm to the face. Mathews looked for the ZigZag but Fhenix grabbed the top ropes and Mathews hit the mat. He got back to his feet quickly and walked into a step up enziguri by Fhenix. Mathews stumbled up to his feet and reversed an Irish whip, sending Fhenix into the corner. Mathews followed and hit a running bulldog out of the corner. Mathews pulled Fhenix up and onto his shoulders and delivered the Heaven’s Whisper (Wasteland). He covered but only got two. Fhenix started to get a second wind and hit Mathews with a flurry of lefts and rights. Fhenix connected with a standing dropkick that sent Mathews into the ropes. Mathews stumbled towards Fhenix and was hit with the Stock Market Crash (Sky High). Fhenix covered but could only get two. Mathews climbed to his feet and Fhenix looked for the Sudden Reality (Running Knee) but Mathews dodged. Mathews looked for the NFG (Yakuza Kick to back of the head) but Fhenix moved just in time. Mathews turned right into the Tragic Hero (RKO) and Fhenix covered for the win.
WINNER: Jonathan Fhenix, via pinfall 12:09
Fhenix rolled to his knees and looked up at the ramp, yelling at Slayton and Simonova saying “this was their fate”.
The Trios Champion F.M. Young handed off her title and was ready to square off with Allen Chaney. The two locked up and Chaney overpowered Young into the corner. Young kicked him away briefly and was able to slip behind him. She hit a few quick elbows to the back of Chaney before be spun around and connected with a bionic elbow. Young staggered and Chaney dropped her with a clothesline. Chaney pulled Young up slowly by her hair and she blasted him with a kick to the gut. She jumped up and hit a front dropkick and kipped up. She charged and jumped up, spiking Chaney into the mat with a DDT. Young covered but could only get one. She pulled Chaney up and she pulled him down, jumped up, and drove both knees into his face. He staggered and Young looked for a drop toe hold and took him to the mat. She called for the Midnight Overdrive (Shooting Star Senton) as she neared the corner but Chaney got to his feet. She charged and ran right into a bionic elbow. Chaney hit a gutwrench powerbomb and Young was slow to her feet. Chaney pulled her in and connected with the Set Up (Double Arm DDT). Young stumbled up to her feet and tried to fight back with right hands and even caught Chaney with a elbow to the face. Young went to run for the ropes but Chaney grabbed her by the hair and pulled her down to her back. He pulled her in and connected with the Punchline (Package Piledriver) and covered for the win.
WINNER: Allen Chaney, via pinfall 8:45
The fans popped as Sabrina Scott made her way to the ring and slid in with a microphone in hand.
Sabrina Scott: Allen, we have some unfinished business from two weeks ago.
The crowd is ready as Allen just smirks.
Sabrina Scott: I’m tired of being looked at like I need AJ to fight my battles or I’m just a piece of flesh at his side. Me. You. Gauntlet Run. No count outs this time.
She leaves it up to Chaney and he nods and the fans cheer the match booked. Sabrina watches as Allen leaves the ring and she looks around the arena.

Trouble in Paradise
The camera opens up backstage as we see AJ Adams walking towards the ring and sees Sabrina Scott near the entrance to the ramp. He starts to make his way over to her.
AJ Adams: Will you talk to me? We’re about to go out there and we’re expected to work as a team and you won’t even talk to me, Sabrina. Look, I said I was sorry for making the Wyatts ban you from ringside at Wreckless.
Sabrina scoffs and turns to AJ.
Sabrina Scott: You don’t get it AJ. This isn’t just about Wreckless.
AJ Adams: Then tell me what it’s about.
She turns away from him and looks down to the ground. He puts his hand on her shoulder and she takes a step away, pulling from him.
Sabrina Scott: If you can’t figure it it out then there’s more wrong than you realize. I need time to think, AJ.
AJ Adams: I’m going out to the ring for our match. I want you out there too, okay? I’m going.
He walks away and Sabrina watches on.
The 3rd Power (Calypso and Tartarus) await AJ Adams and Sabrina Scott in the ring. Adams made his way to the apron and watched backwards, waiting for Scott. He climbed into the ring as Calypso could be heard laughing. The referee began to talk to Adams and gave him the option to forfeit but AJ declined, saying he’ll go himself.
Nick Webb: Looks like we’re going to be getting a handicap match here as AJ Adams will go it alone.
Rayne: AJ was just left high and dry by his girlfriend as she’s forcing him to compete against two men on a mission to destroy AJ and create change.
Calypso stepped up to Adams and landed a right hand as the bell sounded but the champion responded with lefts and rights. A chop across the chest of Calypso echoed throughout the arena as Adams connected. Adams hit a European uppercut on Calypso and drove him to the mat with a scoop slam. Calypso popped up and walked into Adams’ knee being driven into his gut. Adams lifted him and connected with a suplex. Adams went after Calypso but Calypso scurried into the corner and tagged out to Tartarus. Tartarus climbed into the ring slowly and hit a big boot to Adams as he charged. Tartarus pulled the champion up and lifted him to his shoulder. He drove him back first into the corner and finished up the Oklahoma slam by driving him into the mat. Adams pulled himself up to his feet and Tartarus looked for the chokeslam but Adams landed a kick to his gut. Adams jumped up and connected with Eat It (Fame Asser). He covered but only got a quick one count. Adams rolled to the bottom half of Tartarus and applied an anklelock to keep the big man down. Tartarus was able to make it to the ropes to break the hold. Adams tried pulling Tartarus to the center of the ring but was hit from behind by Calypso and a forearm. The referee forced Calypso out of the ring as Adams hit the mat and took a knee. Tartarus stood and pulled Adams in for a powerbomb. Adams slipped behind Tartarus and spun him around, connecting with the Last Call (Codebreaker). Tartarus just stumbled backwards and into his corner where Calypso tagged himself in. Adams charged Tartarus but ran into another big boot. Calypso jumped into the ring and dropped his leg across the back of Adams’ head. Calypso pulled Adams up and sent him into the corner. Calypso charged and connected with the Baptism (Stinger Splash) and hit the ropes as Adams staggered forward. Calypso looked for To the 3rd Power (Clothesline from Hell) but Adams ducked. Adams pulled Calypso in for the Legacy Maker (Sister Abigail) but Tartarus was in the ring and broke it up. Tartarus grabbed Adams and looked for the chokeslam but Adams spun away. He turned and was leveled by Calypso’s To the 3rd Power. Calypso covered and picked up a huge win.
WINNERS: 3rd Power, via pinfall 12:33
Calypso and Tartarus stood over Adams as he tried to get to his feet. Tartarus grabbed him and pulled him to his feet as Calypso yelled at him. Tartarus drove Adams to the mat with a big chokeslam as Calypso laughed. He took Adams’ BWF World Championship and held it high.
Rayne: Are we looking at the next BWF World Champion?
Nick Webb: I think what’s scary is there might not be a way for Adams to fight the numbers game at this point. With Sabrina seemingly distancing herself from AJ, he’s on his own. All it would take is one distraction and Adams could be seeing stars. He took a lot of shots to the head tonight and those quickly mount up.
We get another shot of Calypso as he drops the title and they begin to leave the ring.
Nick Webb: Remember to tune into Gauntlet Run, only on the BWF Network! Who will be the seventh sole survivor of the Gauntlet Run and guarantee themselves a shot at the BWF World Championship next month at WrestleFest IV?
Rayne: Who will be the champion after Gauntlet Run? Will EW’s Calypso do the unthinkable in the home of EW? We’ll see you in New York City!
Nick Webb: Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
We get one more shot of AJ coming to and clutching onto his championship before we fade to black.
